Two or three

A merchant carried on a large business with the west coast of Africa, and kept an agent there to represent him. As he had heard some of his family say that they would like to have a monkey, he wrote a letter to his agent in which he asked him to send him 2 or 3 monkeys. It so happened that in his letter, when he wrote the word "or" between the figures 2 and 3, he made the "o" very large and the "r" very small.
About two months afterwards a porter came to his office to inform him that a whole cargo of monkeys had arrived for him. At the same time, he received a letter from his agent to say that he had been able to get only 180 monkeys instead of 203 ordered, but that he would send the others as soon as possible.
